The drive from the Denver airport to downtown was pretty quick. There was so much to do and see just walking in the few blocks close to our hotel. J booked us a room at the Hotel Teatro. We got an upgrade to a suite which was a nice surprise! We had a beautiful room with a cool view of downtown Denver. We checked out the balcony briefly because it was chilly outside! The weather was such a nice change from all of the Texas heat. We quickly decided to get out of our room because the two sleep deprived new parents could have easily just curled up in that cozy bed!
As we were getting off the elevator Jason Isbell was getting on! It was so cool that we had flown there to see him play/sing and we were not only staying at the same hotel but actually talked to him! J was so excited. I think that was a pretty special moment for him.
There was a great little shopping square about a block from our hotel. There were quite a few shops but I think our favorite was Goorin Bros Hat Shop. I think between the two of us we tried on every single hat in the shop! After a couple of trips to the store we both ended up buying a hat. J got a mustard color and I chose a deep emerald green.
We just kept walking around trying to find some cool stuff to see. We had reservations at a cool speakeasy. I think we could have just sat in that booth with cocktails and chatted with one another all night. The tiny lobby had book shelves lined with books except one section was a door that you passed through to get into the back. When your table was ready that would pass a note through the wall to alert the hostess. There was a multiple page notebook full of handmade cocktails to choose from. As we were paying out the waiter left a small book on our table and we were allowed to write a little note to share with future guests. As we were leaving I noticed that these notes lined the walls of the bathroom like wallpaper. I thought it was really unique!
We ate such great food the whole time we were gone. The first night we had dinner at a great little farm to table place. It was packed! The menu was kind of tapas style so we just ordered a small assortment and shared. The next morning we had giant pancakes at our hotel. For lunch the next day we tried out another farm to table style restaurant that J had read about. It was also great! We did a few touristy things. We went to the Federal Reserve and saw a couple cool exhibits. We also went to a big museum downtown that had an entire exhibit devoted to awkward family photos. We got lots of laughs there! It was so fun to just walk around Denver and shop and eat and drink.
